Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant JSC
Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant JSC is the largest producer of zinc and zinc-based alloys in Russia, using the most modern global zinc production technologies.
A vertically integrated company that offers a full technological cycle of metallic zinc production: from ore mining and enrichment to the release of finished products in the form of refined zinc and zinc-based alloys.
The main specialization of the plant is the production of high-quality SPECIAL HIGH GRADE zinc-based alloys, including alloys for hot-dip galvanizing with additions of nickel, aluminum, antimony, as well as cast zinc alloys.
Further production development. Expansion of the raw material base is intended to strengthen the company's leading position in the zinc industry of Russia and to maximally meet the growing needs of the domestic industry for the highest quality zinc and alloys based on it.

The main raw material for the production of metallic zinc and alloys based on it is zinc concentrate. For raw material processing, a standard hydrometallurgical scheme is used, which includes 6 main stages. As a result of processing zinc concentrate, in addition to metallic zinc, a number of related products are formed: metallic cadmium, metallic indium, sulfuric acid, clinker, lead concentrate, mercury-selenium sludge, zinc sulfate.
Initially, zinc concentrate is roasted in "fluidized layred" furnaces at a temperature of 930˚-970˚C to oxidize metal sulfides. As a result, roasting products containing zinc and sulfur dioxide are transferred to the technological cycle. The sulfuric acid shop utilizes sulfur dioxide gases from zinc production to produce sulfuric acid and mercury-selenium sludge.
The burning products are dissolved in weak sulfuric acid, followed by purification of the resulting solutions from impurities. The purified zinc electrolyte is transferred to the electrolyte shop. When purifying the electrolyte, metallic cadmium is extracted.
In the hydrometallurgical shop, valuable components are extracted from Waelz oxides. The main equipment is thickeners with a capacity of 500 cubic meters, mechanical agitators, frame filter presses, extraction units. The products of the hydrometallurgical shop are zinc sulfate solution, lead concentrate, and metallic indium.
If necessary, zinc sulfate is obtained from the zinc sulfate solution by evaporation. The main use of zinc sulfate is for the enrichment of non-ferrous metal ores at mining and processing plants.
